February and March here in the northeast are challenging in different ways than December and January are. And now with the extremes and unexpected sudden shifts it is even harder. Why we get sick in late winterOur immunity, our protective shield and our internal strength and fire are somewhat exhausted from dealing with winter weather, indoor heating, a variety of winter illnesses and the lack of time outdoors in fresh air and sun. Immune System RemediesHere are some ideas for boosting our vitality and staying healthy, free from coughs colds and anything bigger that is passed around, especially now that people are masking less, washing hands less or sanitizing and are back to up close and personal socializing. Lifestyle Tried and true, more sleep, hydration and lots of vegetables of course. But you can add in ACES + Zinc supplement to support the immune system. Vitamin D & Sunshine Taking Vitamin D3 especially with K2 to help the body use it is good but it is important to know what your levels are (a simple blood draw will tell you). You can take too much Vit D as well as not enough so its best to find out how much your body actually has/ The standard rule of thumb is be above 40 is enough but between for 40 and 60 is great so you could supplement but at a lower dose than if your level is 20. Herbs for winterImmune Support As for herbs, At the first hint of a cold, my favorite is Echinacea combined with Andrographis. They synergize well and seem to give very broad action.
